The Challenge

Centrica Storage Limited was formed in 2003. However, its story pre-dates this by some 300 million years with the formation of Rough, the huge subsea natural gas reservoir that the business has been built around and has played a significant part in the UK gas industry for more than 50 years.

Working closely with the IC team at Centrica Storage, we were asked to pull together content from a vast archive of assets. We structured and formatted the content into an informative publication that could be shared with staff, giving them a feeling of pride and inclusion in their company. This was no small feat, as due to the scale of the project, it was to take a year of careful planning and production. But the end result was worth all the hard work.

Our Response

From the discovery of Rough in the 1960s to its conversion into the UK’s first offshore gas storage facility in the 1980s, its history is fascinating. We set about bringing this to life by creating a structure for the publication that made full use of the vast archive of printed material and personal recollections of those involved. Our biggest problem proved to be what should be left out, with an ever-increasing page count.

The finished publication was entitled ‘Our Journey’. It became, not only a reflection of the past 50 years of the Rough platform, but a celebration of those involved in the development of such a significant gas field. As such, it resonated and connected with staff and was welcomed as marking the important role Centrica Storage had played in the history of the UK gas industry.
